Implementation period: August 2025 - August 2030
Project value: 3,902,500.00 EUR

Effective competition policy and subsidies control are essential to ensuring a level playing field for trade and investment between the European Union and its Asian partners. As markets become increasingly interconnected, differences in competition rules, enforcement practices, State support and regulatory approaches can affect market access, fair competition and legal certainty for businesses. Cooperation between competition authorities is therefore increasingly important to promote transparent and non-discriminatory enforcement, facilitate regulatory convergence and reduce the risk of conflicting outcomes in cross-border cases.

The EU–Asia Cooperation on Competition and Subsidies Control project supports the European Commission’s cooperation with competition authorities and other relevant public bodies across Asia. Its objective is to strengthen regional and bilateral policy dialogue on competition and subsidies, promote convergence with EU competition law and international best practices, and enhance enforcement cooperation between European and Asian competition agencies.

Implemented by SD Policies and EMI Consultants, the project works with DG Competition, EU Member State competition authorities, EU Delegations and partner authorities in China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, ASEAN countries and Bangladesh. Activities combine technical and policy exchanges through Competition Weeks, Competition Policy Summer Seminars, the EU Visitors Programme, Ad Hoc Seminars and targeted online communication campaigns. The project builds on the EU’s longstanding competition cooperation with Asia and provides a platform for officials to exchange experience on competition enforcement, mergers, antitrust, digital markets, State aid and subsidies control, and other emerging policy challenges.
